Perspectives on
Clinical Risk Management
is our quarterly risk management newsletter. Each issue
explores a different risk management topic. Healthcare
professionals may read the text, and upon successful completion of
the test at the end of each article, earn AMA PRA Category 1
CreditTM in risk management study. Some of the early issues that were originally
available only in print have been updated and made available online
at the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) web site (www.massmed.org).

Office Appraisals
An office appraisal is a critical first step in ensuring your practice is as well guarded against risk as possible. Our staff will come to your site, and using the latest technology plus years of experience, will help you define your specific risk exposures. We analyze the risk management strengths of your practice and compare your practice with others in the same specialty. We work with you, examining such issues as:
- Safety and patient confidentiality issues
- Administrative systems, including release of medical records and telephone triage
- Practice issues, including the prescribing and dispensing of medications
- Questions about documentation and informed consent
- Regulatory compliance issues
We also offer consultative services. We can help you address changing issues in risk management and develop new strategies for improving your practice. As part of the process, we are often called on to conduct focus groups to help you discover your patients' thoughts and concerns about your practice.
Emotional Support Groups
For ProMutual Group insured professionals involved in a claim or suit who wish to confront the emotional impact of their claim or suit on their personal and/or professional lives, support groups are available at no charge.
Helping Physicians
ProMutual Group’s
labor and delivery claims reveal that
“negligent management of shoulder dystocia” is now one of the most common and most costly allegations made against obstetricians.
In the summer of 2004, ProMutual Group piloted a
shoulder dystocia prevention program.
